A Broken Home- June 23, 2026

Elder Smith and Elder Morley in Lubeck Lubeck Interfaith Meeting Hamburg Bunker Moin lieber Geschwister!  This week I will cut straight to the chase, because we have a whole apartment to clean, emails to write and friends to converse with. Broken Home: Speaking of the apartment, it is in absolute shambles. Aside from the fact that living in a two room apartment with four 18-20 year olds is a sure recipe for a trap house, much of our apartment is now in disrepair. When this week began, we had a broken couch, study chair, and balcony door. Our luck only improved when we came home for lunch on Saturday and discovered that our Fridge had completely died and most of our food spoiled. Elder Morley tried to save all he can and move it to the other Elders' fridge. However, the majority of our food was lost, and consequently I have been eating nothing by my new signature dish, Gravel, all weekend. Gravel is quite a unique delicousy, as it contains only muessli and Nougat Bits, with a very c...

Interfaith, African Parties, and a trip to the Carribean- June 15, 2026

Moin! Ich wollte nicht auf Deutsch zu schreiben so ich werde das nicht machen. That is the photos (link removed for blog) So much happened in this week it was absolutely crazy. In fact I have so much to write about, that I fear I cannot waste any time getting into it. Interfaith Meeting: A couple weeks ago, we received a digital flyer from the Elders in the Elmshorn area, (A suburb outside of Hamburg) inviting us to a Christian interfaith breakfast fellowshipping meeting. The Elmshorn Elders had received the invitation, because last year, they had attended the meeting, which happened to be online. But, this year the meeting was in person, in downtown Hamburg, and since Elder Morley just so happened to be trained in Elmshorn last year, and went to the online meeting, it was no question that we were going again. So, we pulled up on Saturday morning to the address on the flyer, in full suits, and it was a super nice hotel in downtown Hamburg, right across the street from Hauptbahnhoff. We...

Moin lieber Geschwister! Meine Familie und Freunde, ich freue mich immer auf die Gelegenheit mit euch zu sprechen. Ich muss sagen, dass mein Deutsch wirklich viel besser geworden ist.  Hello everybody! Today I will, as usual, recount a couple experiences from the last week. But first, I thought it necessary to start a counter of how many languages I have used on the street, when finding, or in a lesson, for the number seems to be increasing every day. For example, I have already used French two more times, and, today, I spoke to an Indonesian woman. It is really rather cool that I get to use many languages on the regular. Anyway, the language counter is listed below.  Languages Spoken: German English Twi French Indonesian John Mormon: This story has really the least to do with us, but when I look back at this week, it is the memory that is the foremost in my mind. This week, we got the earth-shattering news (or rather earth shattering for the Hamburg Ward) that one of o...

Photos from President Dirk Franz' Facebook page Photos from President Dirk Franz's Facebook page Moin Elders and Sisters! Jetzt hoeren wir eine Thema von der Pinnaberg STLs! Just an impression of our AP to start the email. This week was wonderful, and I learned a lot. First, that I need to learn more French, and, second, that even though there are hardships and tragedies, it is important to be happy, and we must go forward. To start this email officially, I will break the news to all of you that currently has the lunch and p-day mission abuzz. Some of you may remember my MTC companion, Elder Biesinger. Well, his first area was a city called Hagen. He was put with an Elder who I think could not have been a more pe...
